week 7

I did post on someone else's ihcpl blog. I do sometimes post on some of the librarian blogs I read, like Tales from the Liberry or If I ran the Universe. I enjoy reading about the frustrations of other library employees.

Week 9

I looked at the material available on Overdrive. I rarely checkout audio so there's not much I personally would be interested in. When I've mentioned it to patrons (those who check out audios) they don't usually express a lot of interest.

I looked at podcast.net which seemed pretty straightforward. I couldn't actually get the podcast I selected to play, which I assume means there's some additional software I would need to download. The podcasts from the Kankakee library looked somewhat interesting although usually I like to skim through transcripts since it's faster. The library podcasts I have listened to in the past seem to spend too much time thanking people for participating, greeting people etc. when I want to get to the pertinent bits quicker.

I look at youtube, although only for personal use at home. Most of the library ones that I have seen that someone has sent me a link to are incredibly dull.

Week 10

Since I spread my work on the 23 things over such a long time, I've mostly forgotten the early things.
Having a blog isn't really all that difficult, except that my computer is very very slow with blogs, so I've had to do it at other computers.
If one had content that others would really be interested in, a blog would be pertinent to the library.
Although definately not an early adopter of new technologies, I had heard of/or used many of these resources already (RSS feeds and YouTube).

week 8

I looked at myspace and yahoo 360. Initially I tried finding people from my home town but because there are towns with the same name in other states, I didn't find many people from there (and did find lots of "wrong" people.) So then I tried finding some people who liked authors, which I supposed might be interesting. Sherlock Holmes found a bunch of random people, but not necessarily with a very strong interest in his work. Not sure what I'd do with a group once I found it anyway.
I have found very distant relatives on genealogy boards (which this seems most similar to) but once we've exchanged relevent information we haven't stayed in touch and I can't say I would really want to.

Week 6

I thought I would find del.icio.us more helpful than I did. I think this would be useful for assignments when one librarian finds a helpful site and would be easy for others to access. I found it annoying to have to keep clicking to skip to content to see the site. (When I used it, it never took me directly to the links but would stay on the heading) Many of the sites I saw were ones I have stumbled across on my own.

week 7

I looked at the zoho site. Here at CYF we were initially using the zoho wiki but I had problems remembering to check and use it. I'm not sure what the advantage is for much of zoho if everyone in your office is using the microsoft tools.
I think the planner might be helpful for organizing activities among friends, (as it's sometimes hard to coordinate) but I don't think they would all use it.
I did post to the ihcpl wiki but immediately found the way it emails you when others post to be annoying. I don't want more email than I get now.

Week 6

I read "into a new world of librarianship" and was struck by the contrasting points of avoiding technolust and embracing trends. It's hard to know when something has passed into being a useful trend and not just a shiny new toy. Usually for me, by that point, it's no longer cool anyway.
the next article focused on more powerful ways to cooperate. I think it would be great to have our library users add more content. The reviews by everyone are a great start. I know some library catalogs allow for patron comments which would be interesting. For me, one of the most useful things about Amazon are the reviews, even though one has to be sceptical to avoid what are obviously planted reviews.
