Week 6

I thought I would find del.icio.us more helpful than I did. I think this would be useful for assignments when one librarian finds a helpful site and would be easy for others to access. I found it annoying to have to keep clicking to skip to content to see the site. (When I used it, it never took me directly to the links but would stay on the heading) Many of the sites I saw were ones I have stumbled across on my own.

week 7

I looked at the zoho site. Here at CYF we were initially using the zoho wiki but I had problems remembering to check and use it. I'm not sure what the advantage is for much of zoho if everyone in your office is using the microsoft tools.
I think the planner might be helpful for organizing activities among friends, (as it's sometimes hard to coordinate) but I don't think they would all use it.
I did post to the ihcpl wiki but immediately found the way it emails you when others post to be annoying. I don't want more email than I get now.

Week 6

I read "into a new world of librarianship" and was struck by the contrasting points of avoiding technolust and embracing trends. It's hard to know when something has passed into being a useful trend and not just a shiny new toy. Usually for me, by that point, it's no longer cool anyway.
the next article focused on more powerful ways to cooperate. I think it would be great to have our library users add more content. The reviews by everyone are a great start. I know some library catalogs allow for patron comments which would be interesting. For me, one of the most useful things about Amazon are the reviews, even though one has to be sceptical to avoid what are obviously planted reviews.

Week 4, #8

I set up a bloglines account. I don't really like having all these accounts with passwords set up on different websites. If I use the same password all the time, I think there's a greater likelihood of one of them being hacked. If I use different passwords, it's just one more thing to remember. Also some of them want the email address as a log-in and some just want the name.

I suppose bloglines is useful if you check 100's of blogs but I only read about 5-10 regularly. I used blogs I read regularly, like Bookslut and Tales from the Liberry.

Week 3 #6

I set up a Flickr account. This is one tool I could see actually using to post family photos so relatives could see them without emailing them.
I looked at the FDToys but I can't see anyone really wanting a librarian card. I briefly looked at the travel one.

Week 5 #10

I really don't like the idea of avatars, since they mostly look silly. I don't dress for Halloween either. here's my graphic though.

Pixer was very easy, although I'm not sure I see an advantage over the microsoft product. For some reason my previous post only includes the picturea and not the text.
