I looked at myspace and yahoo 360. Initially I tried finding people from my home town but because there are towns with the same name in other states, I didn't find many people from there (and did find lots of "wrong" people.) So then I tried finding some people who liked authors, which I supposed might be interesting. Sherlock Holmes found a bunch of random people, but not necessarily with a very strong interest in his work. Not sure what I'd do with a group once I found it anyway.
I have found very distant relatives on genealogy boards (which this seems most similar to) but once we've exchanged relevent information we haven't stayed in touch and I can't say I would really want to.
